General Motors kept the Chevrolet Impala marching into the future with the introduction of the 2016 model. This was the first model to get Apple CarPlay smartphone integration on the Chevrolet MyLink touchscreen, as well as a Qi wireless smartphone charging station. This model year’s top-of-the-line LTZ trim came standard with the a V6 powertrain, meaning no premium trim gets a four-cylinder engine. Finally, the LT trim’s premium cloth seating was replaced with genuine leather upholstery. Apart from that, it resembles the previous model year.
For the 2015 model year, Chevrolet gave all versions of the Impala a 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection as part of the OnStar telematics package. This means that in addition to emergency roadside assistance and automatic crash notification, the Impala lets you connect to the Internet on up to seven different devices at one time. Additionally, Chevrolet dropped the eAssist hybrid version of the Chevrolet Impala. However, you can get this full-size sedan with a natural gas (CNG)/gasoline bi-fuel version of the 3.6L V6 engine, which yields 230 hp and 218 lb-ft of torque.
The 2014 Chevrolet Impala was fully redesigned and offered with three different engine options, all of which come with a six-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is a 2.5L four-cylinder that’s good for 195 hp and 187 lb-ft of torque, as well as an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined city/highway. There’s also a 3.6L V6 engine that makes 305 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque and gets a combined 21 mpg city/highway.
Exclusive to this model year is a hybrid version of the 2.5L four-cylinder engine that increases fuel economy to 29 mpg combined city/highway. Other highlights include more sculpted and sporty exterior styling, a more refined cabin with more high-quality materials, and a variety of advanced safety features to make it a top competitor in the segment.
The 2013 Chevrolet Impala was the last model year of the ninth generation before it was fully redesigned in 2014. As such, it’s not surprising that there weren’t many big changes for this model year. Like other versions of this generation and the one to follow, the 2013 Impala has standard seating for up to five adult passengers. There’s also a lot of room for storage in this mode, with a trunk that measures a spacious 18.6 cubic feet. There’s a new Luxury Edition package added to the mix, which fits the Impala with heated front seats that are power adjustable, the full sound of a Bose stereo system, and premium leather upholstery.
The 2012 Chevrolet Impala was the first model year to come with a 3.6L V6 engine with an output of 300 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, as well as EPA-estimated fuel economy of 30 mpg highway and 18 mpg city. This Impala was modernized, too, adding standard Bluetooth across the lineup, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Finally, all LT models for the 2012 Impala come standard with a folding rear seat, a rear spoiler, and a shift knob wrapped in leather.
