There’s been a lot of buzz around the redesign of Chevrolet’s iconic muscle car, and Tom Gill Chevrolet has been following along with eager eyes and ears. When news dropped about the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro changes, let’s just say we were amazed. General Motors has pulled out all the stops with the latest rendition of this classic pony, and the final product is a Chevrolet Camaro that is more refined and fuel-efficient than the outgoing version, all while delivering more powerful and responsive performance. These changes have helped it earned the exclusive moniker of the 2016 Motor Trend “Car of the Year.”

Design

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro changes begin with a 200-pound weight loss thanks to Chevrolet’s commitment to designing based on the “Alpha” platform. The newest Camaro also features a more chiseled look with a wider front opening and angles designed to deflect wind resistance around back until it gets lifted off the new stanchion spoiler. The overall result is a Camaro that is swifter and more fuel-efficient. Who can argue with that?

New Turbocharged Engine

The biggest change to the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro powertrain lineup this year is the introduction of an all-new base engine: a 2.0L turbocharged inline-four. Before you run off convinced that the Camaro has compromised by fitting it with a four-cylinder engine, check out the numbers. This engine serves up a commanding 275 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and it is expected to achieve some outstanding fuel economy numbers as well, though EPA estimates have not yet been released.

More Powerful V6 and V8 Engines

For those who insist on a more traditional powertrain setup, the new Camaro does not disappoint. The 3.6L V6 has returned to deliver more power than the 2015 model up to 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. As for the 6.2L V8 on the SS models, it dishes out a robust 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque.
