For the 2016 model year, the Chevrolet Spark came fully redesigned. Perhaps the biggest highlight for the new generation is its powertrain, which is more powerful and fuel-efficient than the outgoing model. The 2016 Chevrolet Spark runs on a 1.4L four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual or continuously variable transmission.
This system delivers 98 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels, and maximum fuel economy hits an EPA-estimated 41 mpg highway and 31 mpg city. Another advantage is that the 2016 Chevrolet Spark comes standard with a basic version of the Chevrolet MyLink touchscreen infotainment system for access to a wide range of different features. The 2016 Spark is also offered with a wide range of advanced safety features, including forward collision alert and lane departure warning.
The 2015 Chevrolet Spark was the last model year of the first generation for this hatchback. It brought relatively few changes, but it added a more advanced version of the OnStar telematics system, even with the base model. With this OnStar system, you’ll get a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Like other versions of the Spark, it has an advanced Chevrolet MyLink 7-inch touchscreen interface with smartphone app integration, satellite radio, and Bluetooth.
General Motors made a couple of incremental changes to the Chevrolet Spark for the 2014 model year. Perhaps the most noteworthy of these is the addition of the CVT to the lineup, which increases fuel economy while simultaneously decreasing engine noise. Like other versions from the first generation, the 2014 Spark has a 1.2L inline-four that makes 84 hp and 83 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the CVT, though, this year’s model reaches an EPA-estimated 39 mpg highway and 31 mpg city.
Later versions of the 2014 Spark also come with enhanced smartphone integration capabilities via the Chevrolet MyLink touchscreen interface and infotainment system. There’s also plenty of safety tech available on this and other first generation Spark models, including the OnStar telematics system with emergency roadside assistance, automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle assistance, remote door unlocking, and even turn-by-turn navigation.
The 2013 Chevrolet Spark represented a new kind of car for the American auto buyer. This small, fuel-efficient hatchback gave buyers an option for sophisticated in-car tech without breaking the bank. The Spark offered up 97.7 cubic feet of total interior volume and standard seating for four passengers, and 11.4 cubic feet of dedicated cargo space behind the rear seat.
As a hatchback, it also provides the added versatility of a 60/40 split-folding rear seat that opens up a maximum cargo volume of 31.2 cubic feet. Even though it’s an economy car, you can find versions of the Spark going back to this first model year with leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
