2014 Chevrolet SS vs. 2014 Chrysler 300 SRT8
The 2014 Chevrolet SS is a fantastic choice for those of you out there that are torn between a sports car and a full-size sedan. It offers fantastic performance, but comes with a spacious rear seat and a generous trunk—perfect for traveling with the family and friends, golf clubs, luggage, and more. There’s a lot to be said for that kind of versatility. The Chrysler 300 SRT8 claims to offer a similar kind of package. Here at Tom Gill Chevy we think that the 300 falls behind the SS for a number of important reasons:
- Price: The Chevy SS comes in at $43,475 MSRP—that’s a whole lot less than the Chrysler 300 SRT8. That car clocks in at $48,900 MSRP. Is the Chrysler really worth a whopping $5,000 more? We’re not inclined to think so.
- Mechanical Features: Both cars get a burly V8 good for over 400 hp. Both cars get high-performance Brembo disc brakes. Both get sport tuned suspension, big forged aluminum wheels, and much more. One place the Chevy beats the SRT8 is with its more modern and smooth 6-speed automatic with manual shift controls. The Chrysler is equipped with a slightly dated five-speed automatic.
- Safety Features: Both cars get packed with high-tech safety features. Both have parking assistance features, traction control, stability control, panic brake assist, passenger airbag occupancy sensors, curtain airbags, and much more. One thing that can help you avoid accidents that the SS has but is missing on the SRT8 300 is a blind spot monitor and a forward collision mitigation system.
- Space: Both of these sedans offer a whole lot of interior space. But the SS gives you a bit more in many major dimensions. The SS has more front leg room, more front and rear head room, more front and rear hip room, and more rear shoulder room. If you need the space, and you want to make even full-sized passengers more comfortable on long drives, then you should consider the SS.
