2015 Chevy Equinox
2015 Jeep Compass
Small crossovers are dominating the automotive market right now, and the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox is a top contender. That’s because it offers drivers a blend of style, comfort, and utility that it is hard to find in any other kind of vehicle. If you’re looking for a new vehicle that offers lots of space for passengers and cargo, blends performance and fuel economy, and comes outfitted with the best of today’s technologies, the latest Equinox is a clear choice.
And if that’s not enough, it also comes with capable driving dynamics on city and highway roads, in addition to off-road capabilities when you need it. Find out how it compares to the 2015 Jeep Compass, and when you see how these two SUVs compare, check out the Equinox in person and take it for a test drive at Tom Gill Chevy in Florence, just a short drive from Cincinnati.
If power didn’t matter to you, you wouldn’t be considering a crossover. Find horsepower and torque to spare by choosing the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. Two powertrains are available starting with a 2.4L four-cylinder that serves up 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. If you require more power, a 3.6L V6 is also available. This raises the power ratings to 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, this engine will tow up to 3500 pounds. For the Jeep Compass, two powertrains are available, but not a V6. Choose from the base engine which is an underwhelming 2.0L four-cylinder that puts out only 158 hp and 141 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.4L four-cylinder still falls short with power ratings of 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. Towing capacity tops out at just 2000 pounds.
The base engine in the 2015 Chevy Equinox is quite a bit more powerful than the base engine in the Compass. Despite that, it delivers superior fuel economy on the highway. Fuel efficiency is rated up to an EPA-estimated 32 mpg highway with an automatic transmission, impressive numbers for a powerful crossover SUV. For the Jeep, fuel efficiency on the Compass tops out at just 30 mpg on the highway with a manual transmission.
Starting with the base trim, the 2015 Chevy Equinox comes with more standard equipment than the 2015 Jeep Compass:
- Equinox Features: The intro L trim comes with exciting features like keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity, OnStar, and a six-speaker stereo. The top-of-the-line LTZ trim features a power liftgate, advanced safety features, and sport-tuned suspension.
- Compass Features: The intro trim is not available with Bluetooth, keyless entry, or any kind of telematics system like OnStar. Plus, the stereo has only four speakers. At the other end of the spectrum, the Compass offers a limited range of premium features, and most are only available as cost-added options.
If you plan to transport your kids or take your vehicle on rough terrain, you want to know that you’re protected by ironclad safety features that have earned top safety ratings. You will only find that in the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. The NHTSA awarded the Equinox with a perfect five-star rating for side-crash protection and four out of five stars for front-impact protection. The IIHS also gave the Equinox top scores across the board. The NHTSA gave the Compass a troubling three out of five stars for front-impact protection, and five out of five stars for side-crash protection. The IIHS has declined to put the Compass through its complete battery of crash tests, raising further questions about its safety.
When you need to load up all your gear, groceries, or luggage, expect to have room leftover in the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. Utilize a generous 31.5 cubic feet of dedicated cargo space, or fold down the rear seats and take advantage of all 63.7 cubic feet of space overall to work with. The Compass limits you to only 22.7 cubic feet of space behind the second row of seating, and only 53.6 cubic feet overall, a number that will limit your carrying capacity and leave your passengers feeling cramped.
