In recent years, auto manufacturers have been finding more innovative ways to increase fuel economy without significantly decreasing performance. The 2016 Chevy Malibu is now at the front of the charge, with better available fuel economy than the 2016 Chrysler 200:
- 2016 Chevy Malibu mpg: The 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder base engine is able to get an impressive 37 mpg highway and 27 mpg city, according to the EPA. Opting for the larger 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine doesn’t decrease fuel economy very much, as it still gets an EPA-estimated 33 mpg highway and 22 mpg city.
- 2016 Chrysler 200 mpg: The 2.4L four-cylinder base engine on the Chrysler 200 is only capable of achieving an EPA-estimated 36 mpg highway and 23 mpg city, while the larger 3.6L V6 can only get 32 mpg highway and 19 mpg city.
Both of these midsize family sedans provide relatively spacious seating for up to five passengers. The Chevy Malibu gives you even more room to spread out, though, with its total interior volume of 118.7 cubic feet. The interior volume in the Chrysler 200 measures a smaller 115.9 cubic feet.
In spite of the advantages, the redesigned 2016 Chevy Malibu is also more affordable than the Chrysler 200:
- 2016 Chevy Malibu Price: MSRP from $22,500
- 2016 Chrysler 200 Price: MSRP from $22,990
Both of these sedans have standard features like Bluetooth, keyless entry and ignition, cruise control, and air conditioning. However, the standard OnStar system on the Chevy Malibu means a number of added standard features that are only available as cost-added options or not available at all on the Chrysler 200. These include a turn-by-turn navigation system, emergency crash notification and roadside assistance, an a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that lets you connect up to seven mobile devices at once.
