Starting Price

If you’re looking for a more affordable way to get into a full-size pickup truck, the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado is a better choice:

  • 2016 Chevy Silverado Price: MSRP from $27,285
  • 2016 Toyota Tundra Price: MSRP from $28,450

Whether you’re looking for better horsepower, torque, or towing capacity, you’ll be better served by the 2016 Chevy Silverado. The Silverado is available with three engine choices, including a 5.3L V8 that gets 355 hp, 383 lb-ft of torque, and up to 11,100 pounds of towing capacity; as well as a 6.2L V8 that pumps out a commanding 420 hp, 460 lb-ft of torque, and can tow up to a best-in-class 12,000 pounds.

There are only two engines available on the Tundra. The 4.6L V8 only makes 310 hp and 327 lb-ft of torque, and it can only tow up to 6800 pounds. The larger 5.7L V8 gets just 385 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque and can’t tow more than 10,500 pounds.

Fuel Economy

You can save more money on the job by spending less on gas. Here, too, the Silverado proves king. The base 4.3L V6 engine on the Silverado gets up to 24 mpg highway and 18 mpg city. Step up to the 5.3L V8 for a best-in-class 23 mpg highway and 16 mpg city. The most powerful 6.2L V8 engine is still able to get up to 21 mpg highway and 15 mpg city.

The Tundra’s base 4.6L V8 can only get up to 19 mpg highway and 15 mpg city, while the 5.7L V8 gets up to an unimpressive 18 mpg highway and 13 mpg city.

Both of these full-size pickup trucks come with a variety of advanced technologies to keep you connected, safe, and entertained while you’re on the job. The Silverado and the Tundra both get standard and available features like Bluetooth phone and audio, an infotainment touchscreen interface, a rearview camera, HD and satellite radio, and much more. However, only the Silverado 1500 comes with an available wireless charging station for your smartphone and a 4G LTE Wi-FI hotspot as part of the OnStar telematics system.
