2017 Nissan Frontier
Some people need a full-size pickup truck to get the job done, but for others, a small or midsize pickup is the smarter choice. The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado and 2017 Nissan Frontier often come up as viable options in the segment, but in critical areas like performance, fuel economy, and advanced features, the latest Chevrolet Colorado is the clear champion. Find out more about both pickups, and test drive the Colorado at Tom Gill Chevrolet.
Whether you champion more engine choices, horsepower, torque, or towing capacity, the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado beats out the 2017 Nissan Frontier.
- Chevrolet Colorado: The Colorado comes with a base 2.5L four-cylinder engine that delivers a strong 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. For the torque hungry driver, an available 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel inline-four makes 181 hp and an 369 lb-ft of torque. Those looking for V6 power will find it in a 3.6L V6 that’s good for 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Maximum towing capacity on the Colorado comes with the turbo-diesel engine at 7,700 pounds.
- Nissan Frontier: The base engine on the Nissan Frontier is also a 2.5L four-cylinder that is only able to push out 152 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a 4.0L V6 engine available, but even that only makes 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. When you need to tow a big load, you’ll be hard pressed with the Frontier because it tops out at just 6,710 pounds.
On top of its commanding output, the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado also gets better fuel economy than the 2017 Nissan Frontier.
- Chevrolet Colorado: If you choose the 2.5L four-cylinder engine, then you’ll get up to 24 mpg highway and 19 mpg city. The 3.6L V6 tops out at 25 mpg highway and 18 mpg city. The best fuel economy comes from the turbo-diesel engine at up to 30 mpg highway and 22 mpg city.
- Nissan Frontier: With the base four-cylinder engine, the Frontier only manages up to 23 mpg highway and 19 mpg city. The V6 engine can’t surpass 22 mpg highway and 16 mpg city.
No matter which of these pickups you choose, you’ll access things like Bluetooth, a rearview camera, and an advanced touchscreen interface and infotainment system. However, only the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado is offered with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone app integration.
