The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 vs. the 2016 RAM 2500
2016 Chevrolet Silverado
2016 RAM 2500
The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and the 2016 RAM 2500 are both large and powerful heavy-duty pickup trucks with lots of towing and hauling power. However, that doesn't mean they're equally capable. The specs reveal that the latest Silverado 2500 does more of what drivers from Florence and Cincinnati expect a pickup to do. Compare the two models head to head, and then take a trip to Tom Gill Chevrolet to get an in-person experience.
More than anything else, most drivers in the market for a heavy-duty pickup want a truck that can perform when they most need it to. Expect to get more diesel pulling power by going with the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500.
- 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500: An available turbodiesel 6.6L V8 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission puts out 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque, which provides enough power for a max towing capacity of 18,000 with a properly equipped model with a tow hitch and fifth wheel setup. The fastest version of the Silverado 2500 can move from 0 to 60 mph in a speedy 6.6 seconds.
- 2016 RAM 2500: An available turbocharged turbodiesel 6.7L V8 paired standard with a six-speed manual transmission only produces 350 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque. Those power ratings improve when the engine is paired with an optional six-speed automatic, but horsepower still tops out at 370 hp. The RAM 2500 maxes out at a 17,980 pound towing capacity, and there’s no versions of this truck that cane move from 0 to 60 mph faster than 8.4 seconds.
The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 does a lot more to help you both avoid accidents and roadway hazards rather than simply survive them. All but the base trim come standard with OnStar telematics, which connects drivers with emergency responders and roadside assistance providers. They are also available with front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, lane departure warning, and a front collision alert.
When it comes to the RAM truck, a rearview camera is the only available advanced safety feature.
Despite having similar price points, the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 comes with a lot more of the features you're looking for at every trim level.
- 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500: The introductory WT trims comes with stylish chrome bumpers, rubberized floors and vinyl upholstery for better durability, power locks to protect the cabin, and a 4.2-inch infotainment display. Moving just one trim level up adds an eight-inch touchscreen, OnStar telematics with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection, and smartphone integration with Apple and Android apps.
- 2016 RAM 2500: You won't find comparable features in comparable trims, and in the case of a feature like a 4G LTE Wi-Fi connection, you won't find it on any RAM 2500 trim.
