If you have a newer Chevy model with keyless entry, here’s how to change the CR2032 3V battery:

  1. Press the chrome button on the side to be able to pull out the metal key.
  2. Open the key fob and remove the circuit board and buttons.
  3. Once you can see the old battery, remove it using a small flathead screwdriver.
  4. Install a new CR2032 3V battery, making sure that the positive side matches the position of the old battery.
  5. Replace the components you removed from your key fob, and you’re all set!

Chevrolet Flip Key Battery Replacement

If your Chevy is a 2010-2016, you likely have a flip key. Here’s how to replace its CR2032 3V battery:

  1. Flip the metal key blade and remove the back cover on your key fob.
  2. Pull out the old, dead battery and replace it with a new CR2032 3V battery. Make sure to align the new battery in the same position as the previous one.
  3. Replace the key fob cover, and you should be good to go!

How to Program a Chevy Key Fob: Step-by-Step Guide

Here’s how to perform a Chevy key fob programming in nine simple steps:

  1. Manually unlock your car door with your Chevy key.
  2. Ensure all car doors are fully shut, then insert the key into the ignition, but don’t start the car.
  3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s side door, then turn your key to the “On” position. The interior lights and radio will come on, but the engine should not be ignited.
  4. Turn the key back to the “Off” position, then turn it to “On” and right back to “Off” once again in quick succession. (On – Off – On – Off)
  5. Release the unlock button.
  6. After releasing the unlock button, you should hear the door locks engage and disengage, telling you that the programming sequence can begin.
  7. On your Chevy key fob, press and hold the “Unlock” and “Lock” buttons simultaneously until you hear the door locks engage and disengage again, indicating that you have successfully programmed your key fob.
  8. Re-insert the newly programmed key into the ignition in the “On” position to end the programming sequence.
  9. If you are adding a new key fob to your vehicle and want other key fobs to still work, you should program them all together to ensure they all continue to unlock your Chevy.
